About
About the Law Office
One of the leading and prominent law offices based in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, with a wide range of legal services across the country. Our law office is built on a simple belief: clients deserve their lawyer's own attention, honest assessment, and advice they can actually understand and rely on.
Workineh Zewdie Law Office provides comprehensive legal services to individuals, businesses, companies, investors, institutions and organizations operating in Ethiopia. We combine sound legal knowledge with practical experience to provide clients with effective and result-oriented legal solutions.
Our approach is founded on professional integrity, confidentiality, diligence, responsiveness and a thorough understanding of the legal and business environment in Ethiopia while representing and advising clients before relevant Ethiopian courts, government institutions, administrative bodies, regulatory authorities, arbitration tribunals and other dispute-resolution forums.
Working in both Amharic and English, our law office serves Ethiopian companies, individuals, international investors, NGOs and diaspora clients — often acting through power of attorney for those managing Ethiopian affairs from overseas.
Our Team
About the Attorneys
With more than 15 years of extensive work experience in the field, founder and principal attorney Workineh Zewdie, together with the office's paralegals, possesses practical familiarity with the operation of the Ethiopian legal system.
His practice spans the legal life of Ethiopian businesses and families: family and succession (inheritance), including divorce and common-property matters; insurance and banking; property; company formation and foreign investment; commercial contracts; employment matters; tax controversies; real estate transactions; and other legal matters in general.
We understand that successful legal representation in Ethiopia requires more than knowledge of legislation. It also requires familiarity with court procedures, administrative processes, evidentiary requirements, regulatory practice and the practical realities of pursuing legal remedies — qualities for which our attorneys are well known.
Principles
How this office practises law
Candor over comfort
If your case is weak, you hear it in the first meeting — with the reasoning. An honest "no" early is worth more than an expensive "maybe" later.
Plain language
Legal advice you can't understand is advice you can't use. Every opinion is written for the client who has to act on it, not the lawyer who wrote it.
Preparation wins
Ethiopian courts decide on pleadings and documents. Matters are won in the file room before they are won in the courtroom — so that is where the hours go.
Agreed fees
Scope and fees in writing before work begins. The invoice should never be the surprising part of a legal matter.
Discretion
Your affairs stay yours. Confidentiality is treated as an absolute, not a courtesy.
Responsiveness
Every message answered within two working days — usually much sooner. Silence from a lawyer is a breach of trust.
