Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Some disputes should settle in a week; others must be fought to final judgment. Our first job is telling you honestly which one you have — then executing without hesitation.

We represent clients before the Federal First Instance, High and Supreme Courts, regional courts, and arbitral tribunals seated in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia's Arbitration and Conciliation Working Procedure Proclamation No. 1237/2021 has made arbitration a genuinely enforceable alternative to court, and we advise on both paths — including which one your contract actually requires.

How we help

  • Commercial and civil litigation: contract, property, partnership and shareholder disputes
  • Arbitration under Proclamation 1237/2021, institutional and ad hoc, as counsel or arbitrator support
  • Enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards, including foreign awards under the New York Convention
  • Pre-action strategy: demand letters, evidence preservation and settlement negotiation
  • Injunctions and interim measures to protect assets while a case proceeds
  • Appeals and cassation petitions on fundamental errors of law

How we run a case

Ethiopian litigation is won on pleadings and documentary evidence. Before we file anything, we build the complete documentary record, stress-test the theory of the case against likely defences, and give you a candid written assessment — cost, duration and probability. You decide with real information, not optimism.

Who we act for

Businesses enforcing contracts, property owners defending title, partners and shareholders in company disputes, and foreign parties who need credible local counsel before Ethiopian courts.
